Notice of the Election of Delegates and Alternates to the 42nd UBCJA General Convention and Regional Council Delegates
Our International has mandated that the Election of Delegates to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America General Convention must conclude by no later than June 30, 2020 in order to have delegates seated at the 42nd UBCJA General Convention. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, local unions must conduct their elections by mail ballot.
To ensure the integrity of the election process, the independent private firm of Elections USA, Inc. has been contracted to conduct the Local 158 Election of Delegates and Alternate Delegates to the 42nd UBCJA General Convention and Regional Council Delegates. Ballots will be mailed by Elections USA, Inc. no later than May 29, 2020, and must be received back (not postmarked, but received) in their P.O. Box by June 19, 2020 to be included in the final tally. The Election Tally will be conducted remotely at Elections USA, Inc. Headquarters in Quakertown, PA between June 22-24, 2020.
In order to be eligible to vote and your vote to count, you must be current in your dues payments through June 2020. If your dues are not current, you are not considered a “member in good standing”, and your ballot will not count. Your dues payment must be received by June 18, 2020, for your ballot to be counted. If you have not received a ballot by June 5, 2020 please contact the Election Committee Chairman, Bruce Offner immediately, at bobo1073@comcast.net or (215) 499-6111 to request a replacement ballot.
Replacement ballots can be requested up until 12:00 noon on June 12, 2020 in order for it to be mailed out and received back in the P.O. Box in time to be counted. All requests for replacement ballots must be in writing. No ballots will be faxed, emailed, or sent by express courier.
You should have received the following in your Official Ballot packet: 1) Official Ballot, 2) Secret Ballot Envelope, and 3) a Pre-Addressed Business Reply Mail Return Envelope (no postage required). Do not sign your ballot or make any other identifying marks, notes, or initials on your ballot or on the Secret Ballot Envelope, otherwise your ballot will be voided. The Secret Ballot Envelope will protect the secrecy of your vote. Do not deface or otherwise destroy the barcode on the BRM Return Envelope; doing so may also void your ballot.
All voted ballots must be marked properly and returned in the pre-addressed BRM return envelope to be verified and counted. Optical scanners will be used for the tally, so it is important to completely fill in boxes for the candidates you select. **(Sample = ) YOU MUST USE BLACK OR BLUE INK ONLY
PLEASE BE SURE TO VOTE BOTH SIDES OF THE BALLOT
Mail ballots must be completed and mailed using the enclosed Business Reply Mail Envelope pre-addressed to: Elections USA, Inc., P.O. Box 426, Richlandtown, PA 18955. Completed ballots must be received (not postmarked, but received) in the P.O. Box by 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020 in order to be recognized at the Election Tally. Ballots not received in the P.O. Box by 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020 will not be counted. Elections USA, Inc. is not responsible for late requests for ballots or the late delivery of ballots to the Post Office Box.
As you are aware due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is a new process being implemented for our local. In compliance with the election guidelines that have been set forth in effort to keep everyone safe, and to reduce the potential spread of contamination, Elections USA, Inc. will require all mail to be sanitized and quarantined for a period of no less than (72) hours before any election tally process can begin.
